Well Hello there January! Was December as crazy for you as it was for me? While I hate that the holidays are over and its a whole year until Christmas comes again, I also am a little relieved to see January arrive. I feel like January gets a bad rap since it some after a month full of celebration so here are a few things I love about January…

  1. The holiday craziness is over. Yes, I love everything about the holidays but there is a wonderful sense of calm that comes after the last drink has been drunk. When life starts to calm down again and routine comes back. I think it’s the ebb and flow of so much build up and excitement. We love the build up but it’s nice to come down the other side afterwards. Also my stomach is very happy to be getting back to eating normal food! Not that I don’t miss all those delicious cookies and treats!

  2. The release! There is nothing like a new year to make a fresh start. Yes I know talk of goals is everywhere and the gyms are going to be packed for the next month or so but I’m talking about the feeling you get even before you set a goal. It’s like opening a fresh note book or a new sketch pad. It’s the urge to clean your closet out or get your desk organized. Something about the new year lets us all feel like we can release the past and start fresh. It gives us hope. It give us courage to try to start to change. It says hey, it’s time to get it together.

  3. Reflecting. Along with the release comes taking stock of what the previous year brought. January is a great time to take a few minutes to reflect on where the last year has taken you, the things you have accomplished, and the things you still want to make happen. We are always going and pushing forward but looking back and appreciating where we have been can be very beneficial in helping us figure out where we want to go in the future. Again what better time than at the start of a new year!

  4. Picking a word for the year. This is a new thing I’m trying this year. You pick a word that describes you intention for the year. My word for 2017 is Reconnect. To me it means getting in touch with what my mind and body need. It’s taking time to listen to my inner guidance. It’s believing in myself. It’s reconnecting to myself so I can show up and be a better coach, mother, wife, daughter, and friend to those I love. What is your word?

  5. Snow. Okay this is probably specific to living in Pennsylvania but I actually look forward to snow days in January. That hope that it will be enough to either get off from work or work from home always brings back being a kid and praying school would be canceled. I’d be glued to the TV hoping our school name would scroll across that bottom screen! I know shoveling sucks but sledding is still awesome and so is having a glass of wine sitting by a fire.

So here is to January and a new year. May it bring you lots of joy and happiness!
