This past Monday I woke up feeling, well, bleh. I mean it was a Monday after a really fun weekend celebrating my parents 30th anniversary. Who wants to get back in the work groove after a great weekend like that?! I hoped in the shower and I was feeling dread as my brain cycled through the day to come. I started to worry out every possible thing that could go wrong that day. You know, basically rehearsing having a bad day.
Now, I know better than that. I’m a firm a believer in “good energy brings more good energy” and the power of our thoughts so when I realized what I was doing, I couldn’t help think, what the hell? Why am I putting out there that I’m going to have a crappy day? Have I not learned anything in all these years of coaching? So I decided right there to set my intention for the day. I may not be able to control how things go but I sure can put the right energy and good thoughts out there to start the day. Because here is the truth, I was thinking about all the things that could go wrong that day and that was putting me in a bad mood but the reality was NOTHING had happened yet. Yes it was possible that all the things I was thinking could go wrong would happen BUT it is also possible that everything could go right! So why focus on the negative when I can start out the day positive?
Life gets busy and we start to go unconscious of our thoughts. When I’ve been in a funk or a slump I usually have stopped practicing setting my intention for the day and thinking positive thoughts. And folks I am here to tell you that Monday was fantastic! Things went so smooth and because i was in a good mood, when they didn’t I was able to move through the discomfort faster.
So in case you need a reminder, set your intention for the day. If you are worried about a particular event, go over it in your mind feeling and thinking how you want it to go. No, it’s not a guarantee but put that good energy out there. The bad is possible but so is the good! Even if you are in the middle of a day right now, set your intention for the rest of it. We can’t control everything but we can control our thoughts and reactions. Remember that YOU control your thoughts and can make this day as good or as bad as you want. Why not choose the positive?
