You know that feeling you get when everything just doesn’t seem to be going right? You feel like you can’t get ahead or a handle on things. Nothing is working out the way you want! Well, two weeks ago we had an ice storm. Right after we had a snow storm drop 8 inches of heavy snow on us. The result? Widespread power outages. Tree branches were down everywhere and driving around at night looked like you were driving right into the apocalypse. It was pitch black! We were lucky to only have lost power for 3 full days. Some folks lost it for a week or more. Now, to add to this Tom had to go out of town for work, which left me holding down the fort at home. All of this caused just a little stress. I mean literally and figuratively in the darkness.
The thing is during this crazy black out (and the ensuing struggles to, you know, keep yourself and your animals warm, make food, take a shower in candle light, etc.) I had to appreciate the light. One, because having no electricity makes you really appreciate how much we use it. Two, I had two dear friends and their pup come stay with me because their power was out too. Together, we figured out how to work the generator (big thanks to the old owners of our house who left it), we made some delicious food on the gas stove, the pups played all day, we kept the fire going, and entertained each other with some awesome board games. The light of this situation is that through the darkness I was not alone. Aside from our friends, we also had family who had power and made us a delicious dinner one night. We had lots of folks checking in to see if we were okay and when the power finally came back on, we celebrated it up with a drink or four!
Thanks to the darkness, I saw how much light I had in my life. Friends, family, a warm house, a generator, and electricity! Even when you are in the darkness of a power outage, or a dark spot in life… take stock of the light in your life. The power will come back on. Things will turn around. You will get where you want to go and reach whatever goal you are trying to reach. Take stock of the light, it’s what will keep you going.
