Merring

Tom and his band mates, Merring, played their second public show last night. It was my first time getting to see them in action. (since I had my gallbladder removed the day before their first show. Crap timing!) So I was extra excited to see this show! The guys sounded great! It was such a rush just watching them up on stage doing what they love. Doing it not because it makes them a ton of money or because they had too but because they love doing it. It just makes them happy and you can feel that coming off the stage as they play.

Tom and I both had a deep rooted love of music. We have a whole room in our house dedicated to it! On the way home we were talking about what we love about it. The way it can change a moment, or how it can take you back to a certain time in your life. It’s emotion brought to life. When you play it though, a beat on a drum, sing a note or strum a chord and actually MAKE music, it’s this incredible moment of creation. You did that, you made that song come to life, that beat, that note. Heck, even babies get that! Why do you think banging on pots and pans is so fun? It’s creating!  It’s a gift that everyone has in them. Everyone can create in their own way. Maybe yours isn’t music but you do create on some level in your life! Just think about what you are good at or what you enjoy doing. Somewhere in that you are creating.

You know the best part? You don’t’ have to be a trained musician or artist or whatever to do your creative thing either. You love to sing? do it. You love to write? Go for it. You love to make paper mache hats? rock on! Do it because you love it. Because it makes you feel lighter and happy. Because it fills your heart up with vibrance and joy. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks as long as you are enjoying it.

After Merring played a second band got up on stage. They were a band of guys somewhere in their late forties to fifties. They played their hearts out. I mean they just gave it their all and you could see how much they loved it on their faces. I would bet if you asked them what kept them playing, practicing and doing shows, they would say because they love doing it. It’s never too late and you are never too old to do what you love. Just because you love it. Because it fill you up. So go rock on in your paper mache hat! And play a beat for me.
